Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland

We offer face-to-face confidential counselling, telephone helpline, email support and specialist information.

Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland (RCTN) is a charity that provides services to women and girls who live, work or study in Tyneside and Northumberland.

We are completely independent of the criminal justice system including the police and we provide free, confidential support, information and counselling to women who have experienced sexual violence.

We won’t judge, we don’t criticise, we listen. Find out more about our services.

We provide free, safe, professional support and information for women and girls over 13 who have experienced any form of sexual violence at any time in their lives.

We are still here for you

We are still committed to being here for women and girls who have experienced sexual violence.

We are aiming to maintain our services while following government guidelines regarding Coronavirus.  We won’t be meeting anyone in person but we are working in different ways to make sure we are still able to support women and girls.

Our services that are usually delivered face-to-face, Counselling, Group Work and Practical & Emotional Support, are still working with women and girls. We have been in touch with all of the women and girls we are currently working with to discuss how we can continue to support them.

We remain open for referrals for Counselling, Group Work and Practical & Emotional Support.  Once we have taken a referral a member of staff from that team will be in touch to discuss how we are working.  Please be aware there may be longer waiting times for some of our services.

Our Helpline and Email Support Services continue to be open at their usual times although at a slightly reduced capacity.

Myths & Realities

She deserved it – Look at what’s she’s wearing; short skirt low cut top, she was dancing provocatively.

This suggests that only certain ‘types’ of women get raped, or that they are of a certain age. Women and girls of all ages, professions and positions in society are raped and sexually assaulted every day.

I paid for it, I have the right to get what I paid for.

Anyone selling sex has the right to withdraw consent at any time, even whilst having sex, if they want to stop or do not want to perform a particular sexual act regardless of whether or not this has been paid for.
