Our stance on AI
We do not support the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies where they contribute to harm, abuse, or exploitation, particularly of women and marginalised people. We are especially concerned about the rise in AI-generated deepfakes, non-consensual sexual imagery, and the use of AI in facilitating image-based abuse and so-called “revenge porn”. These technologies further normalise violence, violate consent, and increase the trauma and risks faced by survivors.
While the UK’s Online Safety Act 2023 has taken limited steps toward regulating some of these harms, there remains no comprehensive AI legislation to address these risks. Until robust protections are in place, we will continue to advocate for survivor-informed regulation and ensure our internal practices — across safeguarding, communications, and support — uphold a zero-tolerance approach to tech-enabled abuse.
Our work is rooted in centring survivors’ voices and prioritising their safety, dignity, and rights. We oppose the use of AI in any form that perpetuates gender-based violence, violates consent, or reinforces structural inequality.
