It All Adds Up educational resource is now LIVE
Sexual harassment impacts the lives of women and girls everyday.
What may seem small to some, can have substantial impacts to the lives of women and girls.
71% of women in the UK have experienced some form of sexual harassment in a public space.
It All Adds Up focuses on the safety of women and girls from sexual harassment in public spaces. The campaign was created in 2023 by Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland and funded by Northumbria PCC to raise awareness, educate and change behaviours, surrounding the everyday interactions and misogynistic behaviour many women and girls face.
This resource has been created as part of the campaign, to continue the awareness raising and education around violence against women and girls. This open-access, digital resource pack has been produced for use by education professionals in secondary school settings (and beyond) to aid learning around sexual harassment. This resource has been designed for multiple educational settings and is aimed at young people aged 14 –18 years old.
There are a series of educational resource packs which can be downloaded, that are tailored to different education levels. In these resource packs you will find, lesson/session plans, presentation slides, activity sheets and guidance notes, all to help support the facilitation of sexual harassment teaching.

The unwanted attention. The veiled compliment. The idea that women ought to be flattered to receive such remarks, especially if they do not fit in with society’s beauty expectations.
Every comment. Every remark adds up. A lifetime of moments take their toll and can trigger past trauma.
This is unacceptable.
It all adds up. And today, we’re asking men to reflect on their behaviour and act differently.

Sexual harassment can happen anywhere. There is a misconception that sexual harassment only occurs in busy nightclubs where people are intoxicated.
This is not true, sexual harassment can happen on the street, in the corner shop or on public transport.
Sexual harassment is not confined to specific areas.
Moments of aggression toward women and girls creates an environment where they feel unsafe and are forced to curtail freedoms that others take for granted.
This is unacceptable.

Women of all ages experience sexual harassment. There is a belief that only young women experience harassment.
This is not the case. Sexual harassment occurs across all ages and impacts all women differently.
Women and girls adapt their everyday routines to stay safe. Women will change their clothes, where they go, and when they leave the house to prevent sexual harassment. Women often minimise themselves so that they are not seen.
This is unacceptable.
It all adds up. And today, we’re asking men to reflect on their behaviour and act differently.

Sexual harassment leaves a lasting imprint on women and girls.
When racially minoritized women and girls experience sexual harassment there is often a racial undercurrent to the harassment. Women of colour are often sexualised and objectified by men based on their racial identity. Women feel they are not allowed to exist and be who they want to be. Women’s fear can be passed on throughout generations, all because of sexual harassment by men.
These aggressions which are normalised, contribute to a culture that makes women feel unsafe daily and seriously impacts their freedom. It also speaks to how society ignores women and their experiences.
This is unacceptable.
It all adds up. And today, we’re asking men to reflect on their behaviour and act differently.
