Shout Up! supports our pubs, clubs, bars and venues to take a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment.
Shout-Up! is a campaign devised by Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland and Crystallised. Shout-Up! asks everyone to adopt a zero-tolerance approach to sexual harassment, making our bars, pubs and clubs safer places for women and men.
Shout-Up! has been designed for venues to take a proactive approach to sexual harassment. This means participating training on what is sexual harassment & how to tackle it. We know that women, and to a lesser extent men, spend less money and will often leave venues when they experience sexual harassment, often cutting short their nights in order to keep themselves safe. **
Since its launch in 2017, Shout-Up! has trained over 4,000 night-time economy staff, supporting them to identify sexual harassment and take action.
Shout-Up! Venues commit to:
- Management staff completing in-person Shout-Up! training.
- All other adult staff completing Shout-Up! training online.
- Creating & implementing a sexual harassment policy with help from our team.
- Public acknowledgement of their participation through marketing, social media, posters and promotional material.
- Active participation in 6 monthly check-ins and bi-annual recertification.
Shout-Up! is delivered across the UK in partnership with Rape Crisis Centres and funders, such as the local council and Police and Crime Commissioners.

If your venue is in a funded area you may be able to access Shout-Up! training and support free of charge.
Shout-Up! Newcastle
Newcastle is out flagship Shout-Up! city. We devised Shout-Up! for Safe Newcastle (part of Newcastle City Council) in 2017. Since then we have launched Shout-Up! in other parts of the UK, but Newcastle remains our biggest Shout-Up! location.
We are proud of the work we have done in Newcastle to support our venues to provide a great night out in our home city while taking a zero tolerance stance on sexual harassment.
