First sentencing for cyberflashing.
A man has been sentenced to prison for the first time for cyberflashing offences, which became a criminal offence from 31 January 2024 under the Online Safety Act. Victims of cyberflashing and image-based abuse receive lifelong anonymity under the Sexual Offences Act from the point they report the offence.
Whilst positive progress is being made in the prosecution and conviction of this offence, much remains to be done to protect the safety of women and girls, especially in the online world. Receiving unsolicited images and videos can be extremely traumatic and causing lasting damage. If you have been affected by this news please reach out to our Helpline Support Service.
