‘When men do this, I don’t bother telling people as it is so common.’
It All Adds Up is a campaign highlighting the impact of public sexual harassment on women and girls.
Public sexual harassment is entrenched in our society, with 71% of women in the UK experiencing some form of public sexual harassment.
Our new campaign is part of the Police and Crime Commissioner Kim McGuinness’ Women’s Safety in Public Places project, which has invested over 1 million pounds in trying to prevent violence against women and girls.
To create this project, we worked with women from the local community. We listened to their stories and expertise to try and make a campaign that put women’s and girls’ voices at the campaign’s core. Alongside these focus groups, Dr Helen Williams conducted desktop research into public sexual harassment. You can read this by clicking the button at the bottom of the page.
Once all of the research was collected, Meerkat Films produced some incredible scripts, which were a collaboration of different women’s stories and experiences of public sexual harassment.
Caitlyn, Ella, Jude and Maryam are characters in our films, their names are not real, but their stories are the real experiences of women and girls in the North East.
