When: Monday 2nd October 2017, Where: Morpeth Town Hall
A story with no ending; a chance meeting with one man changes the lives of two women forever. Now they both live trying to predict the unpredictable.
Rattle Snake is an epic tale, based on real life stories of women who have faced and survived coercive controlling domestic abuse.
“If I had seen this before, I would have left my ex way before, but I assumed it was normal.” Audience member, Safe 4 Life, West End Women & Girls Centre
Coinciding with the change in UK law in 2015 making coercive control in relationships a crime, Rattle Snake was originally commissioned by Durham University and Durham Constabulary and funded by Durham PCC and the AHRC. Based on women’s real-life experiences of domestic abuse, the play and interactive workshop was used to train 400 frontline police officers in understanding the complexities behind coercive controlling behaviours.
“I attended your play yesterday and it blew my socks off! This was, by a country mile, the most engaging, impactive and thought provoking training session I have had in my fourteen year career in the police.” PC. Tony Miley, Durham Constabulary
Rattle Snake is a direct and impactful way of illustrating the issues for women who have experienced domestic abuse.
“Made me realise I’m not going through domestic violence alone.” Audience member, Safe 4 Life, West End Women & Girls Centre
Suitable for ages 13 years and over, the performance starts at 2pm and lasts approximately 1 hour.
