Training for Professionals

Rape Crisis Tyneside and Northumberland has been providing specialist support and recovery services to women and girls for over 40 years.  Our training is written, designed and delivered by professionals who are specialists in working with women and girls who have experienced sexual violence at any time in their lives.

We are able to tailor our training to the needs of your organisation or to deliver one of our standard workshops.

Our standard workshops includes subject such as:

  • Creative ways of working in a therapeutic environment
  • Self-care for professionals
  • Sexual violence & trauma – introductory training
  • Sexual violence and older people
  • Understanding secondary trauma and the impact on practice
  • Understanding self-harm
  • Working with adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse
  • Working with adult survivors of rape & sexual assault
  • Working with survivors of sexual violence who have a learning disability
  • Working with young people who have experienced sexual violence

Our training is open to professionals from a range of backgrounds including Counsellors, GPs, Probation Officers, Psychotherapists , Social Workers, Support Staff and Youth Workers, as well as to individuals.

Workshops are open to people of all genders.

Coming Soon – Online Training!

Our online training opportunities aim to increase your knowledge and confidence in relation to sexual violence and those who have experienced it.   From early January 2021 we will be offering 2 workshops which can be accessed online at a time that works for you.

Sexual Violence and Older Women Awareness Training

  • Begin to understand the nature & prevalence of sexual violence in relation to older women.
  • Begin to understand the context of sexual violence in relation to older women
  • Recognise the impact that sexual violence can have on older women
  • Identify the barriers older women face in disclosing and reporting sexual violence

Adult Rape and Sexual Assault Awareness Training

  • Define adult rape and sexual assault
  • Identify the prevalence of adult rape and sexual assault
  • Begin to understand the societal context of adult rape and sexual assault
  • Begin to recognise the impact of adult rape and sexual assault on individuals
  • Identify barriers to disclosure and help seeking
  • Begin to understand how to support someone to overcome barriers to disclosure
